Nevada State Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors

Licensed/Certified Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors

Nevada Administrative Code 641C (NAC 641C.300) requires that all licensed or certified alcohol and drug counselors earn 40 hours of continuing education hours during a two-year period of licensure or certification, of which three hours must pertain to ethics, three hours must pertain to confidentiality and HIPAA, and two hours must pertain to Suicide Prevention. There are no restrictions for licensees with regard to obtaining CEUs in-person or online (webinar or online self-paced).

Certified Interns

To maintain and renew his or her certification as a certified intern, the certified intern must attend at least 12 hours of training during his or her first 6 months of certification, including, without limitation: at least 6 hours of training that pertain to ethics; and at least 6 hours of training that pertain to the standards of confidentiality required pursuant to NAC 641C.425. The certified intern must also attend at least 10 hours of training during his or her second 6 months of certification; and at least 20 hours of training during each subsequent year of certification. There are no restrictions for licensees with regard to obtaining CEUs in-person or online (webinar or online self-paced).Note: the CEU's for Confidentiality and Ethics must now be completed prior to beginning internship.

Current Clinical Supervisors

Licensed counselors who supervise certified interns must attend at least ten hours of continuing education in counseling supervision, ethics, and Nevada law during the two-year certification period. These hours may be included in the required 40 hours of continuing education.

To Become a New Clinical Supervisor

To become certified as an Alcohol & Drug Counselor Internship Supervisor, the following requirements must be met:

An LADC/LCADC must be licensed for two years and a CADC must be licensed for three years prior to applying to become a clinical supervisor.
Complete both classes in the following Clinical Supervision training series:
1. 14-hour online Clinical Supervision Foundations Course hosted on the Healthy Knowledge Website.
  Note: this course is not hosted by CASAT. Questions about this course can be directed to 1-844-284-9616.
2. Complete the Clinical Supervision for Alcohol and Drug Counselors 12 hour course with CASAT Learning. This course is offered twice per year alternating between live webinar and in-person.
Submit your application for Supervisor Certification, along with you certificates of completion from the above trainings, to the Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors office via your LICENSEE portal. There is a $60.00 processing fee for the application.

To Renew a New Clinical Supervisor Certification

For existing Clinical Supervisors seeking to renew your certification with Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors, the following requirements must be met:

Complete the Clinical Supervision Refresher 6 hour course with CASAT Learning. This course is offered twice per year alternating between live webinar and in-person. CASAT Learning now offers a self-paced, online Clinical Supervision Refresher course.
Submit your renewal application, along with your certificate of completion from the above training, to the Board of Examiners for Alcohol, Drug and Gambling Counselors office via your LICENSEE portal.

Native American Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (NACADC)

An individual may be licensed as a Native American Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (NACADC) without a college degree if he or she is 1) of Native American descent or 2) providing services under a contract with, or grant issued by, the government to individuals who are eligible under 25 U.S.C. §§ 450 et seq. or 25 U.S.C. §§ 1601. State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers

SW and LASW

Must complete at least 30 continuing education hours every 2 years, of which, 2 hours must be in suicide prevention and awareness, 4 hours must relate to ethics in the practice of social work and 10 hours must be in the field of practice of the licensee. There are no restrictions for licensees with regard to obtaining CEUs in-person or online (webinar or online self-paced).

LCSW and LISW

Must complete at least 36 continuing education hours every 2 years, of which, 2 hours must be in suicide prevention and awareness, 4 hours must relate to ethics in the practice of social work and 12 hours must be in the field of practice of the licensee. There are no restrictions for licensees with regard to obtaining CEUs in-person or online (webinar or online self-paced).

State of Nevada Board of Examiners for Marriage and Family Therapists & Clinical Professional Counselors

Pursuant to NAC 641A.131, to maintain licensure, a Marriage and Family Therapist or a Clinical Professional Counselor must complete 20 hours of continuing education each year (40 hours for each two year renewal persiod), at least 3 hours of which must be on ethics issues specifically pertaining to he field of practice of the marriage and family therapist or the clinical professional counselor and 2 hours must specifically pertain to suicide prevention. Of the 40 hours required every two years, half (20) may be distance education (online self-paced). Interactive webinars qualify as in-person training.

Nevada State Board of Nursing

The Nevada Nurse Practice Act requires all renewing RNs and LPNs to complete 30 hours of nursing-related continuing education and all renewing CNAs to complete 24 hours of CNA-related continuing training within the license/certificate renewal period. It also requires APNs to take an additional 15 CEs directly related to their specialties and CRNAs to take an additional 15 hours of CEs in pharmacology.
